Tasting Notes: When bottled this wine was full of spice and a soft range of red fruit characteristics from red currant to cassis. Aromas were clove, cinnamon, and green apples. The oak added a nice vanilla undertone, the finish was crisp and refreshing supported by high acidity.

  Alcohol:   13.8% by volume

  Production:   320 cases of 12

Aging Notes: This wine has had a very controversial life in the cellar. When I tasted through all the wines with a small group in early 2001, some pretty fine tuned palates thought this wine the most Burgundian. The acid is high as is the pH; the result is a lush middle mouth and a crisp finish. However, others have had this wine (and sent samples back to me) that were just plain awful. I cannot really account for the variability. However, I do think that the problems in the vineyard (warm winter, rot, high acidity and pH), and me as a novice winemaker and not understanding how to address these issues in the cellar has left a rather vulnerable wine. Drink this now! Waiting will clearly not increase the pleasure.
