HARVEST: This was simply the vintage of the century. What a classic growing season. Winter rains were down a bit and the ground had a perfect balance of moisture to insure vibrant early vegetative growth but not an overabundance that can result from late winter or heavy spring rains. Bloom was uneventful and due to the balanced spring weather clusters were small and not very many in number. Early August was hot but quickly returned to normal (foggy mornings, warm breezy afternoons). This weather pattern lasted through September and the first of October. Beer of choice: Smithwick’s from Ireland (pronounced smidicks). Had it brought in from Canada as it is not available in the states. A couple of good friends were running beer that year!
